The Cortes XS gives me back my freedom

Since Harrie (70) from Saasveld lost his sight in one eye, he is no longer allowed to drive a car. But sitting still is not for him. Thanks to his new Cortes XS from Huka, he is back on the move. ‘That bike gives me so much freedom,’ says Harrie happily. ‘I use it almost every day.’

When Harrie heard that he was no longer allowed to drive, the Roessingh rehabilitation centre advised him to switch to a tricycle. ‘They said I could still cycle perfectly well, but on a tricycle. I tried out several models there and quickly realised that a bike like that could give me a lot of freedom. I was pleasantly surprised that it went so well.’

Personal guidance at Pegge Tweewielers

As he had been a customer of Pegge Tweewielers in the Netherlands for many years, Harrie visited them to select a bicycle. ‘I purchased all my previous bicycles from Pegge as well. We spent a few hours together going through everything, which was very pleasant.’

Customised, exactly as desired

Harrie deliberately chose to purchase one himself. ‘We were told that we could also request one through the local council. But we didn’t want that. I want to choose what’s important to me myself.’

He put together the Cortes XS himself. A striking red colour, a mirror on the left, bags on the back, a basket on the front and a nice display. ‘These may be small things, but they make it complete.’

On the move every day

The bicycle has become an integral part of Harrie’s week. ‘Twice a week I go to therapy, once to the gym in Borne. And on all other days I also cycle – if the weather is good.’

He lives in a somewhat remote area, so the bicycle means more independence. ‘You don’t have to be taken everywhere. That saves others time and it’s good for me. Otherwise you end up sitting still.’

‘Making use of what you can still do’

Harrie gives the Cortes XS an 8 out of 10. ‘It’s very convenient and easy to use. The Cortes XS is more than just a means of transport. It’s a form of freedom, independence and staying active. ’You have to make use of what you can still do,‘ says Harrie with a smile. ’And this bicycle is perfect for that.”
