Adventures with the camper and their Huka Cortes

In April of this year, we spoke with Mr. (80) and Mrs. (81) Cnossens from Friesland, both proud owners of the Huka Cortes. With their tricycle and camper, they travel throughout the Netherlands from their village of Aldwâld, with the Cortes helping them to remain mobile and enjoy the surroundings to the fullest.

A new way of getting around

Mrs Cnossens explains: “After hip surgery and having a pin put in my hip, walking and cycling on a two-wheeler became increasingly difficult and dangerous. I lost my confidence in cycling after a nasty fall. The fear of falling again was always in the back of my mind. When my husband and I decided that I should try a tricycle, a new chapter in our lives began. The Cortes gave us the opportunity to cycle together again without the fear of falling.”

Cycling gives freedom

Mr and Mrs Cnossens travel throughout the Netherlands in their camper van. They visit places such as Limburg, Brabant and Friesland. ‘Cycling on the Cortes gives us the freedom to go wherever we want,’ says Mr Cnossens. ‘We have already discovered many beautiful places.’

Peace and relaxation

‘Cycling on the Cortes gives us peace of mind,’ says Mr Cnossens. ‘We can enjoy nature and the surroundings without worrying about our balance. The pedal assistance ensures that we can cover longer distances without any effort. Last year, I cycled no less than 5,000 kilometres. We do our shopping, visit friends and go on regular trips, all by bike.’

Modifications for comfort

‘Although the Cortes already offers a lot of comfort, we have made a few modifications to make cycling even more enjoyable,’ continues Mr Cnossens. ‘For example, we have made cushions for the seats and a cover to protect them from the rain. We have also added baskets and panniers so we can easily take our things with us.’

A smart rack for the camper

To easily take their beloved bikes with them on their travels, Mr and Mrs Cnossens built a special rack on their camper. ‘The tricycles are a bit bigger and heavier than regular bikes, so a standard bike rack wasn’t enough,’ explains Mr Cnossens. ‘We designed and built a sturdy, custom-made rack that keeps the bikes safe and stable while driving. This allows us to take our bikes with us wherever we go without any hassle.’

Positive reactions

‘Everywhere we go, we get positive reactions to our bikes,’ says Mrs Cnossens. ‘People think the Cortes is a beautiful and practical bike. It’s great to see that our experience is inspiring others.’

Future plans

‘We hope to continue going on holiday for a long time to enjoy nature. The Cortes allows us to experience new adventures and maintain our mobility,’ says Mrs Cnossens enthusiastically.
